Achieve Those Lingering Goals!
We all have goals and dreams that we’ve held onto for years.
These desires are often deeply important to us, but despite our best intentions, we find ourselves struggling to make progress.
🌟 Sometimes, the barriers to achieving these goals aren’t immediately obvious. It takes deep reflection to uncover these hidden blocks and redirect our minds to move forward effectively.
The Journey to Uncovering Hidden Blocks
Understanding the underlying (unconscious/subconscious) reasons why you haven’t achieved a goal yet can be a powerful step toward making real progress.
Let’s break down the process into a structured journal page that can help you begin to uncover these hidden blocks.
Creating Your Journal Page
Remember to start from a place of curiosity and exploration. Notice any self-judgement that comes up that could block your progress.
If you find that any of the steps leave you feeling uncomfortable, please reach out at the link at the bottom of this blog and let’s clear out what’s getting in your way so you can continue your journalling journey.
1. List Your Long-Standing Goals and Projects
Begin by listing your goals, dreams, and projects that you’ve had for years but haven’t yet completed.
Be honest and thorough.
Example:
Goal/Dream/Project 1:
Description: Finish writing and publishing my book
Current Status: Halfway through the manuscript
2. Reflect on Each Goal
Initial Obstacles:
What obvious obstacles have you encountered so far?
How have these obstacles affected your progress?
Hidden Blocks:
Dig deeper. What unconscious fears or concerns might be holding you back?
Are there any beliefs or assumptions you hold that could be creating resistance?
Example Reflection:
Initial Obstacles: Limited time due to work and family commitments.
Hidden Blocks: Fear of potential fallout after publishing – worried about how it might be received and the criticism I might face.
3. Uncovering Hidden Blocks
Use prompts to delve into the less obvious reasons why you might be stuck. Spend some time writing freely about each prompt.
Prompts:
Fear of Failure: Am I afraid of failing at this goal? Why or why not?
Fear of Success: Am I afraid of what might happen if I succeed?
Perfectionism: Am I waiting for the perfect time, place, or condition to work on this goal?
Self-Doubt: Do I doubt my abilities or feel like an imposter?
External Expectations: Am I worried about what others will think or expect from me?
Example Writing Prompt Response:
"I realize that a big part of why I haven’t finished my book is the fear of what will happen once it’s published.
I worry about negative reviews and how it might affect my relationships.
This fear has made me hesitant to even finish writing, let alone think about publishing."
4. Strategies for Overcoming Hidden Blocks
Once you’ve identified the hidden blocks, brainstorm strategies to address them.
Breaking Down the Goal:
Divide your goal into smaller, more manageable steps.
Focus on the process rather than the end result.
Redefining Success:
Redefine what success looks like for you. It doesn’t always have to mean publishing immediately.
Consider alternatives, such as writing for personal satisfaction or sharing with a small, trusted audience first.
Building Confidence:
Remind yourself of past successes and strengths.
Seek feedback and support from trusted friends or mentors.
Example Strategy:
Breaking Down the Goal: Schedule time to write each week, focusing only on completing the manuscript for now.
Redefining Success: Decide to write for personal fulfillment without the pressure of immediate publication.
Building Confidence: Join a writing group for regular feedback and encouragement.
5. Free Writing Section
Set aside 10-15 minutes to freely write about your thoughts, feelings, and plans regarding your goals and the blocks you’ve uncovered. Let your thoughts flow without worrying about structure.
Example of a Free Writing Prompt:
"Today, I recognize that my fear of publishing has been holding me back.
It’s okay to write for myself first, and I don’t need to worry about the end result right now.
By focusing on the joy of writing, I can move forward without pressure..."
Remember…
Uncovering hidden blocks to finally reaching goals you’ve been holding onto for a long time requires deep reflection and inner awareness.
By breaking down the process into manageable steps, redefining what success means, and building confidence, you can overcome these blocks and make meaningful progress.
Use your journal as a tool for self-discovery and a guide to navigate through these challenges.
🌟 When you’ve gained clarity, it’s time to teach your unconscious mind to change its mindset.
